The Seventieth Day: Passion Play

Friday, April 18:

As part of the Easter Tradition in the UK, we attended a Passion Play-- a presentation of Christ's last days on Earth, put on by the local community. It was held in Trafalgar Square and it was really cool!

Some townsfolk started milling about, selling fabric and fruit, scrubbing the floors. Some priests shuffled around looking important. All to set the scene.

The, the narrator appeared and started telling the story of Jesus's last days, starting with the Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.

The Narrator

Roman Guards
"On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,  Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord." - John 12:12-13

Jesus heals a paralyzed boy.

"And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean." - Luke 5:12

"And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean.
And immediately the leprosy departed from him." - Luke 5:13
"Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him." - Matthew 26: 14-16
"And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body. And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it. And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.  Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God. And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives." - Mark 14:22-26
"And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow." - Luke 22:41-45
"And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." - Matthew 26:40-41
"And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt." - Mark 14:36
"And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people. Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast. And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him." - Matthew 26: 47-49

"Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him, And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year. Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people." - John 18:12-14
"Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews? Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence." - John 18:33, 36
"And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. And when they had plaited a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him." - Matthew 27:28-31

"And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost." - Luke 23:46
"The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre." John 20:1

"Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master." - John 20:15-16

"But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believingAnd Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God." - John 20:24-28

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nationsbaptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen." - Matthew 28: 19-20

The Sixty-Sixth Day: Open Mic at Allsortz, The Sixty-Seventh Day: The British Library, The Sixty-Eighth Day: Chores, The Sixty-Ninth Day: Baxters' Photoshoot

Monday, April 14:

After resting and unpacking from our Liverpool trip, Chris and I went to an Open Mic Night hosted by Allsortz at Rich Mix in Shoreditch.

Shoreditch itself is kind of a dodgy part of town, but the open mic night was really cool! This kid was one of my favourites from the night. Allsortz has more videos on their YouTube Channel.

Tuesday, April 15:

We went to the British Library today!! This place was everything I wanted it to be. I didn't take any photos because I was so overwhelmed with the awesomeness of it all. (And because they don't let you. At least, not of the cool stuff.)

I saw a hand-written copy of Alice in Wonderland, from Carroll's own hand; Hand-written Beatles lyrics; Hand-written sheet music from Beethoven, Handel, and Mozart; Original copies of the Magna Carta; two Gutenburg Bibles; letters from Henry VII, Charles Darwin, Winston Churchill, and Isaac Newton; AND SO MUCH MORE!

I can't even begin to describe how much I love this place. Just have a browse through their online catalogues. You won't regret it.

Wednesday, April 16:

A day filled with household chores, laundry, grocery shopping, and planning for our Europe Tour.

Thursday, April 17:

Today, while Chris worked, I woke up bright-and-early for a sunrise photo-session with my friends The Baxters! Look how cute they are:

Cheers!
