The Sixty-Third Day: Liverpool, part one

Friday, April 11:

Today, we took a trip to Liverpool for the weekend, to spend time with family and see Chris's Dad's old haunts!

We met up with Jill and Shelagh in the morning, and drove around to some of the Weddick Family houses.

This house belonged to Chris's great-grandma and great-grandpa: James Weddick and Catherine Rose Fitzsimons.
Then we drove to the house at Abbotsford Gardens. This home belonged to James and Eileen Weddick, Chris's grandparents. (Tony's mum and dad.) This is where Jill and Tony grew up. Tony says he remembers stretching out on the top rung of a ladder to paint the gables.

During a visit from the States, Chris's brother Graham learned to ride a bike in this cul-de-sac.

Then we went to Shelagh's house to get settled in. We'd be staying with her all weekend, in her lovely home named The Buoys. It's two houses down from the sea front in Blundellsands.

Shelagh's mum and dad came to have lunch with us. Their names are Tom and Norah Weddick. Tom is Chris's grandad's (James) younger brother. Following all this?  ;)

Tom, Chris, and Jill at lunch.
Tom is almost 94 years old, and in better shape than I am, probably.
Norah is so sweet and lovely.
This was just after he told me that I can't care about soccer because I'm a woman.
And that the Tottenham Hotspurs are a terrible team. All just to try to get a reaction outta me.
 What a feisty guy! Haha.
Jill telling Tom to stop gardening and come in to eat.
He reminds me a lot of my great-grandpa Slater --out gardening in his nineties.

After lunch, and saying our goodbyes to Ashley (he had a stag night to go to. Also known as a bachelor party in the states), and Tom & Norah, we walked to the beach to check out the Anthony Gormley statues.

Titled Another Place, the piece consists of 100 cast iron sculptures of the artists's own body facing the sea. It's surreal and very intriguing. Especially once the sea reaches them.

Barnacles and moss.

Chris found a bit of a crab!

Cheers!
